The world we are playing in is called Toril. Its twin planet Abeir was created 30,000 years ago during the first sundering when the gods split Toril-Abeir into twin earthlike planets. In that 30,000 years, the creator races, dragons, giants, and elves ruled Toril at one time or another. All of their mighty empires are 10,000 years or so gone, and the great ruins of those civilizations are now sprinkled along with 10,000+ years of human, dwarf, Gnome, half-elf, Orc, Halfling, Genasi, Dragonborn, Tiefling, centaur, Wemic (liontaur), lizardfolk, goblin, and other minor race ruins as well.
There is also the Underdark region which is a whole other world beneath the surface of Toril that we may or may not journey into later, but it is considerably more deadly than the surface world not to say that the surface world is safe.. it isn’t.
The continent we are starting on is called Faerun, and we start our adventure on the northwest side of what’s called the Sword Coast. It is a storied area with legendary cities like Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Luskan, and the area once known as Silverymoon to the east. These lands are rich in resources and people. Evil, good, and the fringe in between. There is adventure everywhere, around every corner just is there is danger just as there an equal opportunity for riches, fame, heroism, gruesome hideous death, and everything in between.

The past 150 years also have seen the death and rebirth of many gods including Mystra the God of Magic and the pseudo-mortal gods of Bane the God of Tyranny, Bhaal the God of Murder, and Myrkul the God of Bones. Other gods have come and gone but religion is everywhere in Faerun.
In the past ten years, Ao the god over all other gods redid the Tablets of Fate which repaired much of the damage done during the Time of Troubles and the subsequent second sundering of the worlds. Many of the legendary heroes and villains are dead now leaving the world to the new generations of both that will shape Toril in the future.

We start in the northwest region of Toril on the Sword Coast just north of the legendary city of Neverwinter. This area has seen many wars, orc, and giant hordes, treachery, and now after a century of chaos, ten years of relative peace and quiet.
The current year is 1493 Dale Reckoning and this area of the Sword Coast from Waterdeep north has been quietly rebuilding from wars, the spell plague, regular plagues, and the arrival of a mysterious plane-walking wizard name Raethryn.
The area has a few places of interest that will be covered in a few posts: 1. Wolfdun, 2. Helm’s Hold, 3. Port Llast, 4. Raethryn’s Tower, 5. Roz Zacran, 6. Mount Hotenow, and 7. Covewood.
